Mr. M Mohanraj, Governing board member of the Karnataka State Football Association (KSFA) and Vice President of the Karnataka Olympic Association (KOA), passed away 3 pm today. He was 89 years of age.
Having played the game of football at school, college, university and for the state teams, Mohanraj moved onto have an illustrious professional career retiring as an Assistant Welfare Officer, AG’s Office, Govt. of India in the year 1989. He also served as an administrator for Karn
ataka Vidyashala (1993-1995) and for St. John’s English School (1995-1997).
Also, he had an illustrious career in the realm of sport administration having served at the All India Football Federation, Karnataka State Football Association, Bangalore District Football Association as well as the Karnataka Olympic Association.
Through the years 1978 to 1985, Mohanraj served as the manager for the Karnataka State Team many times. His other stints as manager included the Pre-Olympic Indian Team at Bangkok/India, 1999 and the Indian team that participated in the pre-world cup qualifying rounds in Brunei Darussalam in 2001.
In 1982 he was the technical member of the Asian Games held at Delhi and was the organizing secretary of the pre-World Cup Qualifying Round held at Bangalore in the summer of 2001. He was also instrumental in setting up the Karnataka Soccer Welfare Trust and was on its board as the Hon. Treasurer.
‘In the passing away of Mohanraj Sir, the football fraternity of the city, of the state and of the country has lost a soul whose passion and dedication towards the game will be remembered forever,’ said Mr N A Haris, KSFA President.
Mohanraj’s funeral will be held tomorrow, 11 am, at Hebbal Crematorium.
