Former state footballer Sampath Kumar no more

Sampath Kumar, Karnataka state footballer, famous for his dribbling skills passed away yesterday, 11.45 pm at CSI hospital, Bangalore. 

He was admitted to the hospital at 10 pm owing to heart attack. Sampath Kumar was only 47 years old and left his ageing mother, wife, and 3 children. 

Sampath Kumar started his football career in early 80’s with Shri Gajanana, moved to CIL, and then ADE. Later he was employed with Government Press and played for them for several years. He went on representing Karnataka state and Bangalore district for more than a decade. 

Sampath Kumar always kept a low profile. His state colleague and former India captain, S Venkatesh visited his house, former Mohunbagan and ITI player, M Muniappa, BDFA and KSFA officials, and several others from the football fraternity paid last tribute to this talented player.
