BDFA played a 1-1 draw against host Shimoga district in the concluding round match of the 4th Inter District Football Trophy at Nehru Stadium, Shimoga. Both the team’s garnered same point and they were even at par in goal difference (7). However, BDFA got the honor as they scored a goal (10) more than the runners-up Shimoga district (9). This is BDFA’s 4th title in as many editions.
HAL medio Karthigyan opened the account for BDFA in the 3rd minute and Stevenson restored parity for Shimoga in the 30th minute.
In the 3/4 classification match, Dakshin Kannada district defeated Kodagu district 3-2. For Dakshin Kannada, Shaharaj scored a brace in the 21st and 49th minute and Jitin scored another one in the 36th minute. Anash and Dinesh scored a goal each in the 23rd and 78th minute respectively for Kodagu district.
Much is expected from the Karnataka state football authority by conducting such inter district tournament - main idea being to promote and spot budding players from the fringe corners of the state. However, with only 11 districts out of 29 districts participating in the recently concluded tourney, one ponders how much of the purpose is achieved. On a bright note, the tournament is still in its nascent stage; would like to see KSFA inducting more districts in the future edition.
