Three Bangalore teams, ASC, Madras Engineering Group, Bangalore (MEG), and Southern Blues are participating in the 46th edition of the Moulana Abulkalam Azad Trophy organized by the United Sports Club, Kayalpatnam, Thoothukkudi Dist., Tamil Nadu.
Played in a knock-out format, this football tournament has a long history. The preliminary rounds started on May 11. Other participating teams are Thoothukkudi Dist FA, Tamil Nadu Police (Chennai), Golden Trident (Ahmedabad), Diamond FC (Mirag), Akola FC, Coastal FC (Trivandrum), SBI Chennai, Nethaji, Asian Youth FC.
In a Pre-quarter final match, ASC, Bangalore placed in Pool B defeated Thoothukkudi Dist FA 5-0. Ramachandra scored a hat-trick in the first-half, scored another one in the second-half, and Thaygaraj scored the 5th goal for ASC.
Later in the quarter final match played on May 13, ASC defeated Tamil Nadu Police 5-4. The match was decided in tie-breaker; both the teams were tied 1-1 at the full-time.
ASC will play their semi-final match on Friday, May 28.
